Hello, my name is Maria and I am a BACP registered integrative counsellor. Acknowledging that we need help and reaching out is a really big, and sometimes a daunting step and it is important that you find the right counsellor for you. Whether you have been feeling anxious, depressed, lost, stressed, isolated, overwhelmed or misunderstood, I can support you.
ABOUT ME
Are you feeling burned out and that you are always rushing about and find it difficult to slow down or stop? Do you notice that you are spending a lot of your time supporting or trying to please others which leaves little time or energy to look after yourself?
Perhaps you find it really hard to say “no” to others, and this increases the burden and expectations put on you? Maybe you put so much emphasis on pleasing or meeting the needs of others, that the feedback from others is how you measure your own self worth. Do you push yourself and give everything that you can, and it still doesn’t feel like enough? It’s possible you have developed some strategies to help you to cope, but you are noticing that these are not helping.
Is this leaving you feeling exhausted, stuck and that you aren’t enough? You may not even feel that you know yourself at all with all of the hum of live buzzing all around us.
I have certainly felt this way in the past. I think a lot of us do in our modern world, where we are spread so thinly with seemingly endless demands and pressures coming at us from all angles such as work, family, friends and even from social media. So you are not alone.
If the above resonates with you, you are likely wanting a change. A change to how you are feeling, and maybe a change to how you engage with the people and the world around you. Maybe you’d like to identify patterns in your emotions and behaviour and explore where this might stem from?
Maybe you are seeking more control, both of your situation where possible and your responses to it? Perhaps you want to set boundaries and stop feeling guilty about doing so?
Could it be that you want to stop defining your worth by what other people think of you? That you want to feel like you are enough without burning yourself out?
And last but by no means least, you want to be seen, heard and valued.
If this sounds like where you are now, I understand, and I can support you. I offer a safe, non-judgemental space for you to explore what makes you “you”. This can include exploring how events of the past might be influencing the present, to understand how you experience and cope with life’s stresses and consider how you might want to challenge and adapt these to feel more fulfilled and live your life in a way that feels right for you.
MY WAY OF WORKING
One of the key aspects of the way I work is working relationally. This means that we will work together collaboratively throughout the therapeutic journey. Working integratively means I am able to draw upon the person-centered, cognitive and psychodynamic approaches in order to tailor my approach to you (so there is no one size fits all approach to our work together).
SPECIALTIES
I have a particular interest in providing support to individuals who are challenged by addictions and also those who struggle with workplace stresses.
EDUCATION
I hold a Level 6 diploma in Integrative Counselling and hold membership with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I also undertake continuing professional development which equips me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients. I have completed further training and am Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed.
ADDITIONAL TRAINING
In addition to completing regular CPD, I have undertaken the following training:
-
Certificate in online and telephone counselling (Counselling Tutor)
-
CBT Essentials (Association for Psychological Therapies) Level 1
